Description:
The Bachelor of Education course is primarily meant for preparing competent and promising secondary school teachers through a
substantial programme of initiation into teaching as a profession, with the expectation that they will continue to pursue greater
professional growth and attainment in the job.

Its specific aims are:
- to increase the understanding and appreciation of the aims, roles and problems of school education in the present Indian context, especially in achieving the goals of building up a democratic, secular, socialistic society
- to inculcate right attitudes and skills necessary for fostering and guiding the growth of pupils
- to develop competence for teaching at least two high school subjects with adequate mastery of content following accepted principles of teaching and learning
- to foster the competence required for discharging the different roles/functions of teachers in the modern school system.

The programme comprises the following subject of study and practicals: Core subjects:
Education in India (Philosophical, Sociological and Historical
Perspective)
Educational Psychology
Teacher Functions and School Organisation

Specialisation:
Content-cum-Methodology - Subject I
Content-cum-Methodology - Subject II
Practicum - Subject I
Practicum - Subject II

Practicum (Minor)
Socially Useful Productive Work/Working with Community (SUPW/WWC) Physical Education/Co-curricular Activities (PE/CCA)

For specialisation each candidates shall choose any two of the
following school subjects: Kannada, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, English, History and Civics, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Assessment is by assignments and examination.

Entrance qualifications: Applicants should hold a Bachelors or Masters degree and have studied at least one of the school subjects of
specialisation and be practising teachers.

English and Kannada

Media and methods employed: Printed text, face-to-face tutorials.
Printed correspondence texts prepared by/for institution, face-to-face tutoring (contact programme), field work.

The duration of this programme including examination is 14 months.
